Love in the Air Theme from 'The Family Way'
Technically Paul's first solo album. He wrote the score for this controversial film about British working class
newlyweds. Well, it TRIED to be controversial. Don't really know if it was - kind of boring now, but still . . .
nice soundtrack, though.

Macca's (true) first solo album in every sense of the word: every instrument is played by Paul, and the writing
and production is solely Paul. Too bad it's not very good (!), though it has my favourite Macca song of all
time: 'Maybe I'm Amazed.' There are some bright spots here and there, but there's he's trying too hard to
prove how artistic he alone can be. Can you really blame him, though, after coming from the most prolific
band ever?

Paul, stop, you're embarrassing yourself. Didn't you learn anything from Magical Mystery Tour? This movie
is so bad, certain governments force prisoners to watch this as punishment. Oh, what a stinker! The
soundtrack isn't the greatest either, since he covers himself with Beatle and Wings tunes. There's only three
new tunes here, but since it's Paul (bad or not) I had to have it.

From the MTV special, Macca decided to beat the bootleggers to it and issued his own 'bootleg' of the
show. Of course, this being Macca, the production is excellent -- plus, the material he selected is great. His
favourite oldies, solo stuff and Beatles' tunes. Including one of the very first Beatles tunes, 'I Lost My Little
Girl' (even though it's credited here solely to McCartney, not 'Lennon and . . .').

A souvenir of Macca's 1993 world tour. Kind of anti-climactic for me. The 1989-90 tour was such an event,
his first US tour since the 1976 Wings tour, and it supported his greatest solo record ever (Flowers in the
Dirt
). This one is just kind of there.

Another stab at classical music (the first being the Liverpool Oratorio). Macca just needs to stay with rock 'n'
roll. Though I give him credit for trying, and I worship at the altar of McCartney; but even this is a little too
much to ask.

After the success of The Beatles' Anthology, Paul must have decided that he didn't need to put out hit after
monster hit. This one has the feeling of 'I'm gonna do this for me and the world be damned.' In a way that's
great, but you also get the vibe that he really isn't trying anymore. And for someone as competetive as he is,
that could be the death knell. This is a nice record for rainy Sunday afternoons, but that's about it.

The first album Paul did after Linda's untimely death from cancer. A collection of some of his favourite 50's
tunes with a few new ones thrown in. Interesting, and if you're a fan you have to have everything the man
owns, but there's no excitement anymore. Although, the band he gathered was killer (David Gilmour?!) and
the process of recording was cool (no rehearsals, just run through the tunes a couple times and record - just
like the old days).

After hearing how in fine form Sir Paul was during his 2002 tour, courtesy of this wonderful CD, I began
kicking myself daily for not going to see him when he was in Cleveland. And he played here twice! I thought
that age had thrown Macca out for the count and his voice would be a mere shadow of its former self. I
couldn't have been more wrong, and Paul, I sincerely apologise for ever doubting you. I'll never do it again.

At first I really did not like this record. Too depressing, too much fake introspection (I felt), too un-Paul
McCartney
. Thankfully, I listened to this several more times and I discovered how wonderful this record truly
is! Sure, I would've like some more uptempo pop songs (nobody does 'em better than Macca!) but this is a
nice departure with some wonderfully textured songs. Paul's done it again!

On Paul's 2005 European Tour, remixes of some classic solo McCartney songs were played before the
man himself took the stage. A Swedish DJ remixed these tunes and the response was so overwhelming,
they released them as this CD. Unfortunately, it's an import-only release, but fans worldwide will eat it up.
Not for the casual listener, though, as some renditions sound incomplete ('Live & Let Die').
