My best album of the 80s. Magnificently independent, these guys took the world by storm. And it all started
here. If you don't have this record, you should be severely flogged.

Continuing their work from Murmur, R.E.M. began to take it's hold on commercial radio as well as every
college in the U.S. I saw this tour in a small hall (about 300) in Lakewood, Ohio. It was the best R.E.M. show
I have ever seen, buouyed by the wonderful material from this and their debut album.

GREAT record! So-so show (saw this tour as well in Cleveland in front of a sold out crowd of 10,000). Plus
there's a song about the Cuyahoga River! Love Cleveland / NE Ohio references! There's no place like
home!

A collection of B-Sides and unreleased stuff that IRS records was looting from their vaults in anticipation of
losing the band to a bigger, major label. Interesting stuff, but nothing to write home about (pardon the pun!)

Their first for a MAJOR label, again it suffers from too few catchy tunes and too many weird ones. Shapes
of things to come. At least they didn't dumb down there stuff for the sake of sales. Plus, this record SOLD!
Just when you think the masses are a bunch of sheep, they surprise you. Not often, but they do.

R.E.M. was starting to get blasted by fans and critics alike for releasing two mellow (although stellar) albums
in a row. Monster was supposed to be the rocker that brought back original fans like me to the fold. Didn't
work, but it was a good try. Unfortunately for me though, this was the beginning of the end.

if they're capable of this, why can't they do it EVERY time?

Ya like? Check this out!
