Their artistic and commerical zenith. 'Stone Cold' was a major hit for them, and 'Power' is one of the best
anthems ever.

Information
These guys were suppposed to be the Next Big Thing in 1986. Very good debut, but they sank without a
trace after its release, at least publicly. There was a folow-up album, but nobody really knows what
happened to such a promising group.

In the late 90's, I was an advertiser's dream. If Q Magazine (England) espoused the virtues of an artist or
group, I bought the CD immediately. This is one of those cases. Don't know much about it, but I know what I
like.

Apparently, there are a few groups with the monker of Red Letter Day - this is the Power Pop outfit from
San Francisco, and what a great band they were! I have no idea if they're still around, if they have other
CD's . . . but I do listen to this repeatedly -- it's great!

The Politics of Dancing

What a gem! True, they were a one-hit wonder with 'The Politics of Dancing,' but that tune is so great I had to
have this record! The rest of it isn't bad, either.

Midge Ure's first stab at credibility, with the help of ex-Sex Pistol Steve Jones. Fresh from his days with the
teeny-bopper outfit Slik, Midge cuts loose on some punk inspired pop. Very good, indeed.

Saw these guys at a great, but now defunct, club in Akron called The Lime Spider. I can't get a good bead
on them, but I like them. Reminiscent of The Posies at some points, Love at others, then Supergrass. Kinda
frustrating, but as long as it all adds up to great music, who cares?

Crying in the Rain
Poor Jenny
When Will I Be Loved
Ah, a "Next Big Thing" that sadly never happened. Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Billy Bremner and Terry
Williams
(Dire Straits): a Pub Rock supergroup if ever there was one. A great collection of retro originals
and covers that never really caught on in the US. One record, one tour and that was it.

Oh, what could have been . . .

Power Pop, matching suits -- y'think The Beatles were an influence? Most famous for 'What I Like About
You,' these Detroit rockers brought Power Pop to a mainstream audience. One of the building blocks of
New Wave. Plus, they cover a great Kinks tune (She's Got Everything)! Bonus points for that!

In the mid-late 70s, there was this crazy little thing called 'The Akron Sound.' Devo and Rachel Sweet were
born of this, and eventually Chrissie Hynde would form the Pretenders as a result of this. A couple of other
quasi-famous groups that came from this region were The Bizarros and The Rubber City Rebels. This
release is actually side two of the album From Akron, with The Bizarros on side two. Very cool late 70s
punk.
