In the early 90's, the big musical craze was to go acoustic. Just about everyone from Paul McCartney to Kiss
jumped on the bandwagon. In 1994, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant did the same thing. Re-working some
classic Zeppelin tunes with an Eastern flavor, and tossing few new songs into the mix, they came up with an
interesting album that inspired a great tour and then a mediocre album of original material (Walking
Towards Clarksdale
).

A GREAT band form Cleveland, Ohio, who suffered a strange political fate. There was an incredible local
music magazine called The Scene. It came out of Cleveland in 1969 and offered the best in regional and
national talent news, reviews, and interviews. A great showcase for local bands, too. According to legend,
Paranoid Lovesick were scheduled to play a show sponsored by Scene and they didn't show up. An
illness, miscommunication, who knows? But Scene was ticked off and refused to mention PL's name ever
again, unless they could put a dig in. PL broke up by 1998 (one of their last shows, with my old band Man
From Glad
) and Scene sold out to corporate vultures in 1999. What a shame . . . a great band and a great
magazine, now both are gone. Sometimes life just sucks.

Here's the story of a backfired Svengali. A beautiful, European woman marries an American rock star and
wants to be famous. She coerces her husband to leave an enormously talented band at its commercial and
critical zenith and convinces him to start a band with herself as the lead singer. Taking four years to find a
label dumb enough to issue an EP's worth of songs and she is amazed that it sank without registering one
sale (okay, well, maybe a few). Later on she divorces the rock star, blaming him for the failure of her career
and (luckily) he is welcomed back by his friends and rejoins his former band. Can you say Tom Petersson
and Cheap Trick? If you are a serious fan, or one who slows down to look at car crashes, then pick this up
if you find it - if not, just move along. There's nothing to see here.

Well, this one started it all! Rock and Roll became a national craze, thanks to this man. Listening to this now,
it's hard to believe people thought of this as 'devil's music.' Incredibly tame by today's standards, but
despitethe abundance of ballads, there is a certain energy to this record that is palpable.

In the late 70s / early 80s, several record companies created offshoot labels to sign new acts. Nemperor
was one of them, and they specialized in Power Pop (biggest act they singed was The Romantics). Why
they focused on Power Pop, I don't know, but I'm glad they did! Anyway, The Proof was one of the bands
they signed, released a record, and it sank without a trace. Some nice stuff here - not great, but a nice time
capsule into the Power Pop movement back then.

Something About You (I Don't Like)
One of the four fantastic Nu-Disks that Epic Records released in 1980 to promote new bands they signed.
Great, lively Power Pop here that unfortunately ends too soon. There was no full length album after this, so
I'm assuming that this is all there is from this great group.

After the demise of the Sex Pistols, Johnny Rotten took back his real name of Lydon and formed this

An immensely popular BritPop band that I admit I don't understand why. Jarvis Cocker (singer) I guess was
a papparazzi king back in the day, but that didn't translate over to the US. And neither did the music, save
for the single of 'Common People.'

What a great band! Too bad they blew their whole wad on one album. Produced by Todd Rundgren, this is
a great example of pure pop genius. Great songs, great production.

I usually don't get into slacker/stoner music from the late 90s/early 2000s, but there's something about this
that I really, really like. Great hooks and just a genuine feeling of fun emanate from this record.
